Burma has never stopped fascinating Western travellers whom all testified of their amazement in exploring the fabulous city of Bagan or the glittering Shwedagon Pagoda. We offer you to discover all these treasures, navigating on the mythical Irrawaddy River on board of the charming R/V Paukan.


 

ITINERARY

 Day 1 : INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT TO BURMA

Day 2 : YANGON (RANGOON)

Rangoon
Morning arrival in Rangoon. Bus transfer to Chatrium**** Hotel (or similar) and lunch in a nearby restaurant. In the afternoon, sightseeing tour of Yangon also known as Rangoon, literally “end of strife”. The  former capital city is often nicknamed “The Garden of the East”.Yangon, with a population of over four million, continues to be the country's largest city and the most important commercial centre. You will be surprised with its numerous cultural treasures as the city has the largest number of colonial buildings in Southeast Asia today. Amongst many wonders, visit of the Sule Pagoda and St Mary Cathedral. Cross the colonial district where the buildings have retained their ancient charm. By late afternoon, you walk up to the hill where Shwedagon Pagoda, the city’s emblem, overlooks the entire city. Dinner in a restaurant and overnight at the hotel.

Day 3 : YANGON

After crossing the Burmese countryside, arrive in the small town of Syriam. The avenues of the Than Lyn and Kyauk Tan market reflect the traditions of their people. The visit continues with Ye-Le Pagoda, built around the third century BCE. This Buddhist temple houses a large collection of paintings and works of art. Retrun to Rangoon for the lunch and visit Botataung and Chaukhtatgyi Pagodas. Then a must stop at the Scott Market, both worthy for its architecture and its craft shops. Dinner & overnight at the hotel

Day 4 : MANDALAY - MINGUN - START OF CRUISE

Mingun
After breakfast, transfer of the airport for flight to Bagan. Spend the entire day discovering the prestigious Bagan. The ancient Kingdom’s capital ranks among the most significant religious site in the world. Embark on board the RV PAUKAN. In the afternoon, you visit a selection of the 2.000 listed pagodas and temples, many dating to the eleventh century. Alternatively passengers can hire a horse cart or a bicycle and explore the site on your own, dinner and overnight on the ship.

Day 5 : MANDALAY - AMARAPURA

Amarapura
Full day excursion to Mount Popa, an extinct volcano located 65 km South East of Bagan. It stands as one of the National Parks with preserved forest in the hot, dry and plain region of middle Myanmar. The popularity of Mt. Popa today lies in the interest of religious and mystical beliefs of the great family of the “Nats”. Climb the Taungkalat to see the panoramic view of the whole area. Lunch will be taken at the Popa Mountain Resort. On the way back to Bagan, visit the toddy palm producing home cottage (Palm sugar). Dinner and overnight on board.

Day 6 : SAGAING - AVA

Sagaing
After breakfast, visit the local market of Nyaung U, alongside food and textiles crafts stalls. Explore the village stopping to some pot-making workshops to learn their unique production technique. Alternatively you can hire a horse cart or a bicycle to explore BAGAN’s surroundings. After the onboard lunch, the ship heads for Mandalay. While sailing, relax on the Sundeck and attend a presentation of local customs and traditions. The ships drops anchor in late afternoon near the village of Shwe Pyi Thar. Dinner on board followed by a Puppet Show. Overnight on board.

Day 7 : MONYWA

Stop in the early morning at Yandabo, a picturesque river village specializing in Pot-Making, where the peace treaty of the first Anglo-Burmese war signed on Feb. 24, 1826. Explore the village stopping to some pot-making workshops to learn their unique production technique and then visit the school and the monastery. Lunch on board. The RV Paukan sails downstream the Irrawaddy. During the afternoon, first part of the local customs presentation and relaxing time. Dinner and overnight on board.

Day 8 : YANDABO - SHWE PYI THAR VILLAGE

Yandabo
Full day exploration of Monywa and its vicinity, located on the banks of Chidwin river. Departure by bus to reach the caves of Hpo Win Daung. They are home to hundreds of Buddha statues dating from the fourteenth and fifteenth century. One can also admire beautiful murals of that period. Then back to Monywa for lunch at the restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the pagoda Sambuddhai Kat Kyaw where over 500,000 Buddha statues are placed inside the site. Then return by bus to Sagaing and go back on board the RV Paukan. Dinner and overnight on board.

Day 9 : BAGAN

Start this day by the discovery of the ancient city of Ava, capital of the Burmese kingdom from 1364 to 1841. Explore the ruins by horse cart visiting the beautiful 200 years old Bagaya Kyaung Teak Monastery, the Nanmyin Watchtower (27m. high) and the Me Nu Ok Kyaung monastery. Back to the ship for lunch. In the afternoon you travel by sampan (small local boat) and coach to Amarapura, the penultimate Burmese Royal capital (1783), to visit a traditional silk weaving workshop followed by U-Bein Bridge, the world’s longest wooden bridge (1.2 km) on the Taungthaman Lake and enjoy the sunset there. Dinner and overnight on board.

Day 10 : MOUNT POPA

Mont-Popa
Morning visit of Mingun. The city abounds with numerous ancient palaces and must-to-see religious sites. You start with the unfinished Pagoda dating back to the Burmese Kingdom. Then you will admire the largest working bell in the world (weighting almost 90 tons) and you finish this half day of visit by the “Home for the aged”. After lunch on board, the RV Paukan sails downstream the Irrawaddy to Mandalay Visit the Mahamuni Pagoda and the nearby Kuthodaw Paya Temple, which contains the world’s biggest book, the workshops of gold leave making, tapestry making, woodcarving, marble carving and bronze casting. Dinner and overnight on board.

Day 11 : BAGAN - YANGON (RANGOON) – END OF CRUISE

After breakfast, disembark and transfer to the airport of Mandalay for the flight to Yangon. Transfer to downtown for the lunch. In the afternoon, the time is free. In the evening return flight to your country. (as per flight schedule).

The Cabins


 
Two Suite Cabins with a surface area of 40 m²/430 Ft ² are located at the bow of the ship. They are offering a splendid view on the river thanks to 3 windows with French balcony. They are endowed with large bathroom decorated with wood and finished by Italian Glass and Marble Mosaic with separate room for shower and WC. Lounge corner with sofa and armchair. Minibar & Kettle for hot tea and coffee as well as safety box are available.
The Deluxe Cabins are 21 m²/226 ft² and located on Upper Deck. They are decorated in contemporary design with a traditional Myanmar touch. They have French balcony with a sliding-picture, a bathroom with shower and toilets.
The Cabins « Superior » are 16 m2 in size and are located on the Main Deck. They are accessible by outside gangways which have armchairs available. All cabins are air-conditioned (self-adjustable) and have En suite shower and WC facilities.

Life on board


 
The RV PAUKAN has four decks: Lower, Main, and Upper & Sun Deck. The Sun/Top Deck is endowed with Air conditioned Saloon Bar, an Outdoor Bar, Al-Fresco Lounge and a Wheel House. It has also a stage for cultural performances.
Onboard entertainment: During the cruise, a Puppet Show and Dance Shows will be staged on board and will enable guests to discover some aspects of the local cultures.
The Shore excursions are organized and accompanied by a staff member and conducted by a qualified English speaking local guide. During the calls, the guides will bring you an extensive knowledge of the local ways and customs.
Dining & Food. Meals are served in the dining room on an open sitting basis. According to the number of passengers on board, breakfast and lunch may be served on a buffet basis, but dinner is always a sit-down meal with a table d’hôte menu, à la carte. Meals will include both local and Western cuisine.
Drinks: Tea, coffee and mineral water are available at all times in the dining room and Sundeck, free of charge.
2 Massage Salons are available on Navigation Deck of which one for single and another for couple (chargeable service)
The on-board shop is located in the Saloon Bar (Sundeck). You will find traditional Burmese handicraft, clothes and art object.

All cabins have their own air-conditioning unit which can be adjusted for your comfort.

Beverages

Tea, coffee (not Italian Espresso) and mineral water are available at all times in the dining room and Sundeck, free of charge.

Boutique/Shop

The on-board shop is located in the Saloon Bar (Sundeck). You will find traditional Burmese handicraft, clothes and object d'art.

Cabin amenities

Every cabin: shower, WC, hair dryers, cupboard, bureau, safe-box, phone (only internal calls). Free bottle of water according your needs.

No change money on board.

In order to allow the water getting hot, please turn on the hot tap two minutes before having the shower. We apologize for this inconvenience.

This service is proposed on board. All rates and instructions are available in cabin.

Onboard payments

All transactions on board are in US$. It is advisable to carry small US Dollars denomination notes and to change some money in local currency (Kyats) before the embarkation. No credit card onboard.

Smoking policy

Smoking is not permitted in the inside areas of the ship. Passengers may smoke outside on the Sun Deck.

Wake-up call

Please advise the ship manager or his assistant the night before.
